Ingenuity serving communitiesOur projectsMajor renovation of the community center and the Réveil for seniors in Longueuil

Located in the heart of Old Longueuil, the project involves a major renovation of Maison Le Réveil, a community recreation centre for seniors aged 50 and over. According to their website, the organization is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to combat social isolation by offering activities and services to people aged 50 and over that promote well-being, social involvement, and the development of skills, abilities, and creativity.

The project involves an existing building with a concrete structure featuring massive beams and a total gross floor area of 1 398 m² distributed over three floors.

The mechanical and electrical systems were designed to maximize energy savings through advanced technologies, such as a heat pump heating the mixed water loop, achieving a COP of 2.53 at -18°C, in addition to pumps controlled by variable-speed motors that operate according to the building's actual needs.

The ventilation system is a modulating heat exchanger with a rotary heat exchanger that adjusts according to the carbon dioxide (CO2) level in the building, thus reducing energy consumption for heating and cooling while maintaining an optimal fresh air exchange rate for the building's health.

An advanced centralized control system optimizes energy consumption and reduces peak electricity demand during periods of extreme cold through Hydro-Québec's Demand Response Management (DRM) program.

As part of the detailed engineering and construction monitoring, our team developed all the technical solutions based on the client's needs and expectations in order to produce the plans and specifications and continue with project supervision.

Specialized professional and technical building mechanical services included:

  • Evaluation of energy-saving options
  • Preparation of plans and specifications for mechanical systems (drainage, domestic water, ventilation, and controls)
  • Preparation of plans and specifications for electrical systems (coordination with Hydro-Québec, electrical distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and auxiliary systems)
  • Monitoring of construction progress and compliance with plans and specifications

Special Features | Innovation

  • Heat pumps to optimize energy efficiency for air heating in both summer and winter.
  • Air-cooled condenser on the mixed water loop to improve efficiency and reduce consumption.
  • High-performance hybrid heat pump water heater for the building's domestic hot water needs.
  • Air exchanger with a thermal wheel and electric preheating to increase efficiency by eliminating defrosting, including modulation of supply and exhaust fans based on the building's CO2 levels.
  • Automatic control system managing each piece of equipment in the building.
